I've learned a lot about prayer over the past couple months. Sometimes I pray, but I'm not sure that I'm really putting my heart into my prayers. I sometimes read the prayer requests I receive or hear about and say a prayer for them, but do I really mean what I'm praying? Since Kate has been sick, I've done a lot more praying, especially for her. When we found out that Kate might lose her 2 middle fingers or her entire hand due to a staph infection, our Sunday School class met in the back of the Shoppes and had prayer for her. Have you ever really just felt the Holy Spirit wrapped around you? I could feel it there in the back of that store! We were on our knees crying and praying for healing of Kate's hand. God heard our prayers and within a couple days, her hand was showing signs of healing. Do I think we need to go there to pray more often, maybe, maybe not. But I learned something important that night. God wants us on our knees, pouring our heart out to him. He wants to know our dreams, our fears and the desires of our heart. I think we are so distracted with everything going on around us, that it's hard to focus on God. I know I'm guilty of this. I read the prayer email, say a prayer for the request, and continue reading my other emails. I need to see that person the way God sees them and then pray for them. Have you ever tried to do something over & over and then, as a last resort, pray to God for help? Hasn't everyone? Why don't we just get on our knees and pray first? We are so blessed today that I think we sometimes forget just how much God has blessed us. We don't realize we would be nothing without him. So, we think we don't need him, we can do it ourselves.
I challenge anyone who reads this (including myself!) to get on our knees more often. Pour our hearts out to God. He wants to hear from us and show us how much he loves us! I think we would be surprised! I've seen 2 miracles since I was on my knees for Kate. Just think would a testimony it would be to be able to tell others what prayer can do!!
