So, you probably already know that Mother's Day is this weekend. I'm not a big fan of this day. Now, before you go off mad, let me explain. As a mom, I've watched the Mother's day commercials on tv. You know the ones..mom is relaxing in the bed and the kids come in with breakfast for her and there's a small box on her breakfast tray with some type of jewelry on it. Ok, first..we are at church on Sunday, so no chance of me getting breakfast in bed..I'm the one that's up at 7 cracking the whip to get us to church on time. Can you feel the stress starting?? Next..I'm not a big fan of jewelry. Sure, I like personalized pieces or sentimental things, but not fancy jewelry. So, after going to church, it's off to my parents for lunch & time with my mom, then off to my in-laws. So by the time we get home, I'm tired and not feeling the relaxation since it is my day, after all.
But here's what I've found out this year. For one, I am so blessed to have two beautiful kids that love snuggling up together with me. Second, do I really need to "commercialized" view of mom's day? Sure, it would be nice to be pampered for a whole day, but what about the times when my kids go in the back yard & come back with hands full of daisys they picked for me or when my son wants me to come in his room and when I do, he gives me a big hug & kiss..just because he loves me! Third, my close friend, Susan, is bringing her daughter home from the hospital tomorrow after 3 weeks there. I'm sure the only thing she wants for this weekend is just to be able to spend time with all her kids.
So, maybe this year I'll just enjoy the time I have with my family and not stress over wanting time for me. Because one day, in the very near future, my kids will be grown up and I may not get to see them every mothers day.
